4th Grade - March/April 2008

April 17, 2008

It was a sad and difficult evening. After we came home from the boys hair cuts, Jacob was standing in front of the mirror, peering at himself. It was not unusual for him to do this, as he usually smiled and told himself how handsome he looked. However, Jake was not liking what he was seeing, and his remarks were negative, "what a huge head I have.....monkey ears...". He was saying how "ugly" he was as he was crying and still looking at himself. He was picking apart his whole face, commenting how awful he looks. After he left the mirror, he was crying all night at his self image. What a helpless feeling I had hearing this come from Jake. He was really hurting, and no matter what I said, it would not comfort him. I have always heard of anorexics describing themselves as fat, when they were stick thin. This is what is happening to Jacob. He sees a totally different person in the mirror. Ken took him out for a little bit, to try and turn around the sad state he was in, he just couldn't keep crying.

April 18, 2008 Another bad evening. He must of had a bad day because he threw himself on the floor telling me he was going to hurt himself. I managed to get out of him that it was the other children how he felt they were picking on him because of how ugly he was. He was crying in his pillow how terrible he looks. He was banging his head on the wood floor, how much he hated himself. Jacob cried ALL night.

Saturday April 19th - A good day finally for Jake. We met his Cousin, Grandpa, Aunts and Uncles for the day, and he had a smile from ear to ear. He seemed like a totally different boy this day, like he had no cares in the world.

April 21, 2008 Therapy Visit - We discussed him meeting with a psychiatrist and being put on an anti-depressant. Jacob didn't have much to say-he was very quiet and just looked down at the floor. His depressive attitude seems like it is more frequent, it is effecting the whole family now.

March/April 2008 Jacobs behavior problems at school with others are increasing, as well as his depressive behavior at home. He cries constantly, self confidence is diminishing. I am getting concerned that this is getting out of control and he needs more help, IE medication prescribed. I do not want him hurting himself, as he threatens to.
